Liao Dynasty (907-1125)

Liao Dynasty (907-1125)

Following the fall of the Tang Dynasty, Northern China is conquered by three Inner Asian tribal peoples : Liao (907-1125), Xixia (990-1227) and Jin (1115-1234). These barbarian empires were culturally assimilated to China, but each of them built on the achievements of its predecessors, only using the Chinese model when needed.

The Khitan Dynasty of Liao developped original trends regarding tombs furnishings, such as magnificent adornments like gold masks covering faces of the deceased.
