The Cernuschi Museum offers companies and associations the possibility of renting a space among the collections for a private reception (prestige evening event, cocktail party, gala dinner, press conference etc.).

A mansion housing a unique collection

Located at the edge of Parc Monceau, the Cernuschi Museum was left to the City of Paris by the aesthete and collector Henri Cernuschi in 1896 and opened on 26 October 1898.

The museum is specialised in the art and archaeology of ancient China, from its origins to the 13th century.

The collection evokes the great periods of the ancient Chinese civilisation through a succession of masterpieces and major works, from ceramics of the Neolithic discovered in western China to a magnificent ensemble of bronze vases illustrating the art of the Shang dynasty  (circa 1550 – circa 1050 BCE) and the Zhou dynasty (circa 1050 – 221 BCE). Great stone lintels decorated with stylised mythical creatures, bronzes, ceramics and graceful funerary objects (mingqi) offer a rich panorama of the Han period (206 BCE – AD 220). A group of funerary substitutes encapsulates the development of this original form of Chinese sculptural representation from the 3rd century BCE to the 13th century AD.

Pride of place goes to the most imposing piece in the collection: the statue of the Buddha Amida acquired by Henri Cernuschi at the Banryuji temple in Meguro, Tokyo, during his Asian tour in 1871– 1872.

Cernuschi Museum also has Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese collections that go on regular display at the museum as part of exhibitions.

Alongside the curating of its permanent collection, the museum organises temporary exhibitions of international repute.

In latter years, the museum has hosted the following exhibitions: LEE UNGNO L’homme des foules (Lee Ungno: A Man of the Crowd), WALASSE TING Le voleur de fleurs (Walasse Ting: The Flower Thief), ZAO WOU-KI une donation exceptionnelle (ZAO WOU-KI: An Exceptional Donation), SEOUL – PARIS – SEOUL, L’ECOLE DE LINGNAN: L’Eveil de la Chine modern (LINGNAN SCHOOL: The Awakening of Modern China), LE JAPON AU FIL DES SAISONS (JAPAN THROUGH THE SEASONS), OBJECTIF VIETNAM (OBJECTIVE VIETNAM), photographies de l’Ecole française d’Extrême-Orient (FOCUS ON VIETNAM: Photographs of the French School of Asian Studies).

Hosting a private event at the museum

The Cernuschi Museum offers companies the possibility of renting spaces among the collections for private receptions: prestige evening events, cocktail parties, gala dinners, prize-giving ceremonies, press conferences, book signings, new year’s speeches, marketing presentations, breakfasts, business meetings, etc. These events must comply with the museum’s rental guidelines.

Reception times

Receptions may be held outside of the museum’s public opening hours:

  • from 6pm Tuesday to Sunday
  • from 7.30am to 10am for breakfast, Tuesday to Sunday
  • Monday during the day from 7.30am

A personalised accompaniment

The museum staff can offer personalised assistance, to ensure your event’s success: advice on the best use of the museum’s spaces to ensure the smooth running of an event, tours for event organisers, to establish the logistical and practical arrangements best adapted to the comfort of your guests.

For each space rental in the museum, a private tour of the collections or temporary exhibition by a museum guide can be arranged.

Quotation

Each event being unique, quotations will depend on the selected room, the number of guests, the duration of space rental and the tour option selected (tour of the collections or of the temporary exhibition, with or without a guide, use of the security control room, cleaning of the spaces, meal trays).

Spaces available for your events

Spaces can be interconnected to host successive activities (drink on arrival, meeting, tour, cocktails, for example).

A tour of the collection and/or the temporary exhibition can be offered with rental of space in the museum.

The capacity of the Buddha Gallery is as follows:

  • maximum 250 people standing (cocktails)
  • maximum 100 people seated (dinner)

The Hall of Honour can be connected to the Buddha Gallery, with a capacity of up to 50 people standing (for drink on arrival, for example).

The auditorium has a capacity of 45 seats. It is located in the Buddha Gallery extension, in the middle of the collections, and can be used for video screenings, presentations, talks etc.

The use of the auditorium can thus constitute part of an event hosted at the museum.
