This decorative watering pot has a removable top and rose. The handle and spout have a red glaze speckled with large gold dots. The body is painted with stylised flowers and red, green and gold linear motifs. These colours attest to the obvious connection with late 17th-century Arita ware, whose techniques have been completely reworked here and used in the contemporary manner of the artist, Yuriko Matsuda. She plays with the art of trompe l’oeil, in her giant-sized vegetables in coloured porcelain, for example.
A graduate of the Kyoto City University of Arts, Yuriko Matsuda participates in numerous exhibitions in Japan and abroad (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Japan Society, New York, Musée National de Céramique, Sèvres). Her works have joined the collections of museums in Japan (Shigaraki, Gifu) and in the West (Barcelona, Taiwan, Yale University, the Spencer Museum of Art in Kansas, Minneapolis, Denver).
