This bottle has dripped gold lacquer glaze at the neck, probably to hide a repair (kintsugi). It is a fine example of the first underglaze blue ceramics made in Japan, known as shoki Imari. It is inspired by wares imported from China in the “transition period” (1620-1683). This bottle, like other specimens in the museum, was designed to contain rice wine.
