This type of cup with handles was widespread in the Han era. This one is an example of the finest executions. Of note are its relatively large size, the quality of its intense black hue and the delicate, silver-coloured floral and geometric decoration on the handles and the thin band below the lip. The striking composition of these motifs arranged in large diamonds and triangles suggests that it dates to the first half of the dynasty (221 BC – AD 9).
