Cavalier

Entre 386 et 534
Terre cuite, Moulage, Couleurs - Pigments
Statuette, Mingqi
Don manuel : Debré (famille)

M.C. 9419

The relatively large size of the Debré mingqi, its exceptional state of conservation, the largely preserved polychrome on the horse’s bay coat and on the figure’s face, the monumentality of the proportions, the lively modelling and the horseman’s pose of contained immobility make this statuette one of the most impressive of the collection.
The figure holds an ivory horn, an instrument that does not feature among the musician statuettes of the Wei period. This unarmed figure must be a participant in a hunt rather than a musician.
